Best games releases of 2013 – PlayStation and Xbox

Halfway through 2013, it’s safe to say it’s been a great year for gamers. So far for PlayStation and Xbox (both will see new consoles released later this year), there are plenty of games already available to pick up and play.

Games Out Now

BioShock Infinite, the third in the series of shooter games, is set in a 1912 dystopian American landscape and is already a hit with gamers. The Guardian’s Nick Cowen raved, calling it a ‘hell of a lot of fun to play’. Earlier this year, Injustice: Gods Among Us topped BioShock in popularity, becoming the first fighting game at the top of UK charts in more than a year. The latest Tomb Raider, fifth in the series, explores the beginnings of tough-as-nails heroine Lara Croft, with Nate Lanxon of Wired praising it as an ‘incredible piece of adventure gaming’.

Upcoming game releases

Believe it or not, the rest of the year looks even better, with some exciting releases of much-loved classics: Call of Duty: Ghosts hits consoles on Nov. 5 (We won’t forget that date, right?). Set in a modern catastrophic world, players can fight alongside an attack dog and be able to build customisable character avatars in multiplayer mode. Other highly anticipated sequels to watch out for are Grand Theft Auto 5 and FIFA 14, both out in mid-September. Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to the Arkham release preceding it, sees the man in black up against Cat Woman and Deathstroke. Finally, Lego video games are already a hit and its Marvel Super Heroes incarnation, dropping mid-October, is sure to please comics fans, with 120 Marvel characters at their fingertips.

New and improved consoles

To top off all these great game releases, look out for two new versions of the beloved PlayStation and Xbox. The Sony PlayStation 4 pops into UK stores mid-November, complete with new features like a DualShock 4 Controller which was built to be wider and more comfortable to hold than its predecessor: Trusted Reviews hails it ‘the best PlayStation controller yet’. If the Xbox is more your style, look out for the starter 4GB Xbox 360 that comes with Forza Horizon, also out in November.

Whichever console or games you opt for, 2013 is set to continue to be a vintage year for gaming!
